Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem
The city of Charlotte has lost a great leader and a great lady.
“I love my city and its people, and it has been an honor for me to represent them.”
Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Susan Burgess
I, along with Jyoti and my family, will miss Susan Burgess. Our thoughts are with her family in this difficult time. She was one of those irreplaceable people as she made it her mission to work tirelessly and selflessly to make the City of Charlotte a better place for everyone to live in.
Susan not only inspired me as a role model in public life, but she also assisted me in several stages of my introduction to politics. I rememer her well from 2008 when we both were delegates for Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention. In the past year she nominated me for two appointments to City Council committees, one of which was accepted a few months ago. She also encouraged me in my efforts to run for the District 7 seat on the City Council last year.
Though these things are very small in comparison to all the things she did for the City of Charlotte, they meant a lot to me. She showed her concern for the people through her accessability and her ablility to get things done and was admired and respected by people all across the city and even across party lines. We will miss her smiling presence.
